Going off the Grid on a Cruise

April 12, 2013 7 Comments

off_the_grid_4There’s nothing like that relaxing feeling as a cruise ship sets sail with nothing but ocean ahead.  Your daily worries fade much like the land behind you.

But even the oceans are no safe harbor from our hype-connected world.

It is estimated that 60% to 70% of people answer emails and make work-related phone calls while on vacation.  We spend more time checking in-boxes instead of taking-in the beautiful scenery.  And while we love the convenience of our Smartphones, sometimes it is good to kick the online habit and give yourself a digital detox.

Even doctors agree that going off the grid can be good for your health.

During my recovery I have been able to take advantage of the time to unplug.  It reminded me of how important it is to disconnect and really relax.

I am looking forward to getting my sea legs back and taking some real time off the grid while at sea with nothing but smooth sailing ahead.

And I look forward to you joining me.

Bill Brown

I agree. It’s hard to stay away from Facebook and Twitter when on a cruise! Follow me on Twitter @scottlara1961

Bill: Terry & I are delighted to hear you recovering and by all means equally delightled to witness you have taken time and “going off the Grid” (so to speak and enjoying life as it should be — a balance of work and play.

We are happy your getting back in the groove with work and Platinum — a most important part of you.As you pick up speed — before you know it you & Platinum will be back to its prestigous position in the travel Industry.

On our front, Terry is almost back to normal wiith leg — hopefully by summer we can get back to traveling a little. Its almost three years that we were unable to travel — especially cruiseing.

Our prays are with you. Your friends Jim $ Terry

    Dear Bill,

Let me begin by wishing you a very speedy recovery. I, myself, am recovering from surgery (gall bladder removal) and contemplating how I will strive to live my life more stress-free.

When I step onto a cruise ship I do not look at my phone, nor emails….not even once. A cruise is one of the few exceptions to the rule where I do not stay “connected”. This is probably hinging more or less on the aspect concerning the ridiculous fees charged on ships for internet. Even when I did utilize the “internet cafe” on a ship it was just too stressful & frustrating due to the total lack of internet speed / connectivity.

As such, when I step onboard that ship, my only concerns are “what new places & things will this world traveler have a chance to experience this trip”…….
